During the day, your dog’s brain slowly accumulates toxins and a build-up of potentially damaging proteins. This occurs as a result of normal metabolic processes, but may be worsened by:
- The food they eat (a quick google search for advanced glycation end products, or “AGEs” in dog food will tell you more!);
- Things they randomly sniff (consider the bug spray, weed killer, fertilizer and other things they sniff along their daily walk)
- Certain veterinary medications (even those that are completely necessary to take, may increase the level of toxins in the body)
All of these can add toxins to their brain, but there might be a solution…
According to Harvard “One of the most interesting discoveries in the past decade is that the brain has a waste management system (called the Glymphatic System).”*
Glymphatic fluid comes from the spinal cord and cleans out toxins from the day while also delivering vital nutrients that help repair the brain each night. As a healthy dog sleeps, the glymphatic system scrubs toxins from their brain (but if this system doesn’t work properly, due to lack of sleep, older age, inflammation, or any other reason, those toxins can cause harmful plaques to develop). Toxins that accumulate in the brain can cause your dog’s brain to dull and slow down...
